Survey results for magazine.
When carrying out my survey, i needed to include questions that were the most important to my target audience so i could make a popular magazine. I asked around 10 people for my magazine which gave me a good enough results for a clear analysis of what was the most popular choices.
The first question was about age, as I'm aiming to make a punky musical magazine i knew the audience would be at a young target so it didn't suprise me when 100% were 16-19. This means I can aim the magazine at a young 'hip' sort of age, who will enjoy a relaxed, magazine.
The second question, involved what the audience previously read, so what kind of magazine they are interested in. The answers were very mixed here and ranged from two possible answers magazines NME and MixMag being 30% each, and the others Vogue and Heat type magazines were only 20% popular.
'What kind of music interested you the most?', was the next question. Out of all 5 possible answers, 'pop music' was the most popular, with 'Indie' music coming in second. I would have liked to give my magazine a bit of a mix between rock and indie but as pop is the most popular I plan to include some of that.
What kind of musical artist would interest you most, when featured in the magazine?'was the fourth question, singers was the most popular answer with half of the public chosing this. Just under half was a similar answer 'instrumental artists'.
The fifth question was more to do with the target audiences themselves. As this will be produced for Norwich City college students I needed to know where they hang out so I could guess who and what kind of people would be interested in my magazine. The most popular answer was anywhere with friends, which meant the audience most interested were out going people who were always surrounded by other people.
The sixth question was about how much would one spend on a monthly magazine? The answer I got was the most predictable one, with the magazine being monthly it was obvious it would be really cheap or overly expensive so £2-£3 was most likely choice.
The seventh question was, what features would you like to have on the front cover.
Famous bands and artists was the most popular choice, with features of posters and lots of photography surrounding the page coming close to being the most popular.
My eigth question was based on colour and appearences. I wanted my magazine cover to be based on a punky sort of genre, which colours would of included red, black white grey etc. The most popular choicse for this question were Red, white, grey also bold and bright colours.
My ninth question was more based on own, individual opinions, 'what features would you liked to be included in the magazine' All answeres were different, a few choices were including famous artists with articals and interviews, other people wanted posters, general music information and gossip! One answer was 'attractive people' this interested me as most magazines, people involved on the front cover are attractive which is one reason why the magazine gets lot of attention first drawn to it.
My last question was based on the audience again, and they're own lives. 'What events do you attend' was the tenth question and Gigs, parties and friend gatherings were the most popular choices. This tells me that the generation interested in my magazine are music fans and they are also a young crowd.
Overall i think that the survey worked well, and i got enough information for what I needed for the magazine.
I knew from the start who the magazine was going to be based at and what type of magazine it was going to be.
